I've always loved colored glass. I don't know what it is about the glass that I find so attractive, but as far back as I can remember, I've loved looking at it, looking
into it. I've put some colored glass here and there at Roundrock as decorative items (most notably the large chunk o'glass on the stump out in the lake).
For the last few years I've been collecting these glass gemstones. They sit on a mirror on the side of my desk. It used to be that these were hard for me to find, so my accumulation went slowly. For many years, I only had three. The smallest ones you see above are about an inch and a half in diameter, and though I don't have one, they come as large as four and a half inches in diameter. (That seems too industrial strength for me, but if I ever get that sea serpent statue out in my lake, I'll be sure to get a pair of red ones for its eyes.)
So I kept my eyes out for these glass gemstones, only rarely finding them. But then, in an unlikely turn, I found a roadside gift shop not far from Roundrock, that carries them in various sizes and colors. Their selection was picked over by the time I discovered them, and I soon depleted even that supply. (They said they'll get more during the "tourist season.")
In the meantime, I found a source online that has all I could ever want at much more reasonable prices. So I have an order in for an even dozen (plus two more that I couldn't resist).
Now I'm looking for a decent treasure box, a wooden one with a rounded top would do. Or maybe a stone one. There used to be a store here in town that had exactly what I wanted, but it seems to have closed up. Once I get my treasure box, I intend to arrange all of my gemstones in it, and then, assuming I can find one, I intend to put the box in a cave at Roundrock. (It doesn't have to be a big cave.) After that? I don't know. But some day someone is going to find a big, glittering surprise.
31 - Number of days since I've been out to Roundrock.
Missouri calendar:
- Ash Wednesday
- Look for large flocks of returning robins this week.

I think perhaps you could make a grandchild very happy someday when they “accidentally” discover that treasure chest.

Yes, include a round rock in that treasure box! You and my son would get along mightily… we made treasure boxes found at a name-brand craft store. They had big and little ones, and we even included a treasure of old buttons of various shapes and sizes. But he loves rocks, gemstones and yes… the ones you’ve showed above too!
