The only difference between a spider web on a misty day and a spider web any other day is that on a misty day you can actually
see the web before you walk into it.
Starting about this time of the year, spiderwebs seem to be just about everywhere in our forest. At least they seem to be just about everywhere I want to walk in our forest.
The road along our northern property line, which I've sometimes called the
Greenway here, can have some massive webs stretched across it that I must drive the truck through. (Another reason to cut back the encroaching trees, by the way.) Often I'll have perfect webs imprinted on the windshield of the truck.
When I'm deep in the middle of my 80 acres, I don't mind walking along, waving a stick in front of me to clear the webs. Libby says I look silly, but she also lets me walk ahead of her, so, really, I'm a gentleman. Still, I don't bring up the practice in polite conversation, thinking it is a private matter.
But then Good Neighbor Brian's good wife, Debbie, mentioned that when anyone is walking the woods at this time of the year, they really have to wave a stick in front of them. I figured the secret is out!

Nice photo, Pablo. In my case, it’s not just spider webs in the forest. They seem to appear overnight in the cabin, too. And those are never nicely covered with dew.

That’s a beautiful web, pablo. Great shot of it too. I’d love to see the spider wove that.

Funny. I walk the same trails daily with Bear and the huge banana spiders have moved up just above my arm reach after repeated trimmings with a stick.
They are just out of reach now … which is what I wanted all along.

Great picture! I love the misty webs, but as you’ve described they usually end up around my neck…
