Travel light

packed.JPG This was the bed of my truck in the pre-dawn of our last (overnight) trip to Roundrock. Here's the breakdown:
  • yellow bag - sleeping bags and blankets
  • white boxes - books to donate to the local library
  • red cooler - edibles
  • tools - various
  • long green bag - cot
  • long black bags - tables
  • gray bag - tent
And here is the view from the other direction: packed 2.JPG
  • orange cooler - potables
  • white jugs - fire suppression system
I don't think we carried a single thing we didn't need, which is unlike our early days going to the woods when the bed would be twice as full just for a day trip. I will confess that the back seat of the truck was filled as well, but that was mostly with spare clothes and other soft items. Missouri calendar:
  • Peak fall color ends.

Such neat packing. I wonder what it looked like upon your arrival to Roundrock?

P.S. Whatever server your blog is hosted on is becoming really slow these last couple of weeks. It takes me almost a minute now to post a comment rather than the usual fraction of a second.

Well, better to have too much than not enough. But I suppose best of all to have just the right amount. When I used to sleep in the back of my pickup on long trips, I used a nice foam mattress. An air mattress also works. Call me spoiled.

The tools in the truck bed look just like preparation for a prairie restoration workday. But then, that’s very similar to a lot of what you do out there, so I guess it’s no surprise.

Wow – you’ve even color coded the items! I’m impressed.

re: “Peak fall color ends” – ours looks like it is just beginning down here.

I love the “fire suppression system”.

Glad you’re getting out to the land you love. We seem to just be at the end of our colors. Yellows are left as we head into the grey hills of November. So when will you build your dream den at the lake and just stay there? :)

Ed – Things tend to stay put in the truck bed. Some of that is my experience packing it, and some of it is the 100+ miles of good pavement on the way.
Mark – Libby prefers sleeping on the ground. I get the cot. Call me spoiled.
Doug – The right tool for the job, and I’ll get one as soon as I can afford it.
Hal – That’s from the state-wide calendar. We’re just starting here in KC.
RCW – Don’t leave home without it.
WJ – Now that the kids are gone, we’re beginning to talk more seriously about moving out there.
