The farmer is waiting for the moisture content to go down so he doesn’t have to buy expensive gas to dry it down to levels where it can safely be stored without self combusting.

I would bet a thief with a white tail stole it. The thieves with black masks prefer corn when it is still sweet and tender. But then, maize may be a whole other ball of wax.
